The beautiful lighthouses of Maine hover over the coastal waters of Eastern U.S.A. Here they keep a watchful eye on all that pass by. In fact, they have been performing their job along these rocky shores for well over 200 years! In total, the state boasts 65 lighthouses. Built in 1832, Marshall Light also features a summer museum. It sits at the end of the St. George Peninsula where it marks the entrance to the St. George River.

Bethany Beach

Permaquid Point Light
Bristol

Located at tip of the Pemaquid Neck, the lighthouse was commissioned in 1827 by President John Quincy Adams. Due to crumbling, the lighthouse was replaced a few years later.

Portland Light
Cape Elizabeth

Built in 1791, Portland Head Light is the oldest lighouse in Maine. Visit the adjacent Fort Williiams Park and nearby Cape Elizabeth Light, too.

Outer Banks

Rockland Harbor Breakwater Light
Rockland

Situated at the end of a 7/8-mile long breakwater, the original Breakwater Light was just a beacon. The building was added in 1895.

Sequin Island

Constructed in 1795, Sequin Light is the second-oldest of Maine’s coastal lighthouses. It is situated south of the mouth of the Kennebec River.

Owls Head Light
Rockland Harbor

Errected in 1825 and rebuilt in 1852, Owls Head Light stands 100 feet above the water. The light was automated in 1989.

Spring Point Ledge Light
South Portland

Siutated on the breakwater at Southern Maine Community College in South Portland, the lighthouse has cast a watchful eye since 1897. Don’t miss a trip to Spring Point Ledge Light when visiting Portland!

The red and white striped light is situated at the easternmost point of the contiguous United States. The picturesque light boasts a visitor Center and museum.
