Six beautiful U.S. states comprise the region of New England: Maine, Vermont New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. In 1620, Puritans from England established Plymouth Colony (in present-day Mass.) the second successful English settlement in America. During approximately the next 130 years, battles were fought until the English colonists and their native allies defeated the French and their native allies in America.
Today, the geography of New England is very diverse for such a small region. The western and northern regions are populated by the hills and peaks of the northern end of the Appalachian Mountains. Southeastern New England is covered by a coastal plain while the lumbering Connecticut River cuts through the region from north to south. Wherever you visit, make sure you view some of the area’s hill country. Until then, tour our virtual gallery to discover the region’s majestic mountains. Check back often. We’ll regularly update this page in order to help you visualize climbing one of New England’s many peaks!
