Waterfalls of New England

Welcome to the Photo Gallery section of the Ruschtotheoutdoors Blog. Please check out our other pages in the Gallery as well as various blog articles. Now onto the Waterfalls of New England…

Whether they are large or small, most people cannot resist a lovely waterfall. These wonders of nature seem to hypnotize us as we gaze at the cascading water flowing over a rock ledge. John Muir, the naturalist, and author spoke about waterfalls and nature best:

“As long as I live, I’ll hear waterfalls and birds and winds sing. I’ll interpret the rocks, learn the language of flood, storm, and the avalanche. I’ll acquaint myself with the glaciers and wild gardens, and get as near the heart of the world as I can.”

Take a virtual tour with us. Discover some of the finest waterfalls New England has to offer. Check back often. We’ll regularly add more of nature’s gems.

Georgiana Falls, Lincoln, N.H./ Krista @ one_morecupofcoffee

Located in the Second Presidential State Forest of New Hampshire, Georgiana Falls is a lesser-known, cascading waterfall. The falls drop 30 feet before forming a fan shape at the bottom. It then continues on as flowing water in Harvard Brook.

Many visitors are unaware of Harvard Falls, which is sometimes called Upper Georgiana Falls. It’s seemingly very different than the Lower Falls, Harvard Falls plunges over sixty feet into a long chasm below. It splits, plunges, fans out on the right, and then reverse-fans back in before landing. It may be one of the largest falls in New Hampshire but is more difficult to reach than the Lower Falls.

Families visiting Georgiana Falls (the Lower Falls) will be glad to know that it’s an easy hike along a pretty trail. The trail is 1.6 miles in length, round-trip.

Bash Bish Falls in Winter, Massachusetts/ Jose Fig

The picturesque Bash Bish Falls is the highest single-drop waterfall in the state. The lovely water feature sits on the border of New York and Massachusetts. You don’t want to miss this natural site, but I suggest entering through Lake Taghkanic State Park located in Columbia County, New York.

If you visit the Manchester, Vermont area, schedule time in your day to view Lye Brook Falls. The horsetail falls, situated in the beautiful Green Mountains, fall 125 feet. It’s little wonder then that they are considered one of Vermont’s tallest waterfalls. It’s a must-see when visiting New England!

The beautiful, natural wonder drops in a series of six-to-seven steps and offers a spectacular view during spring. The falls are not nearly as impressive in the summertime. To get there, you’ll have to hike approximately 4.7 miles out and back. The first mile is a nice walk through hardwoods. After that, it’s uphill to the splendid waterfall.
